National Day of Remembrance, observed on October 30th, is an honorary holiday to recognize the more than 625,000 men and women who worked in the nuclear weapons development industry, strengthening the country’s national defense.

In October of 2009, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution establishing October 30th as National Day of Remembrance. Each year, around this honorary day, Nuclear Care Partners hosts events across the country to recognize former atomic and uranium workers for their work and appreciate them for the sacrifices they made to keep our country safe.

“Since World War II, hundreds of thousands of men and women have served their nation in building its nuclear defense. In the course of their work, they overcame previously unimagined scientific and technical challenges,” states Executive Order 13179, signed into law by former President Bill Clinton.

“Thousands of these courageous Americans, however, paid a high price for their service, developing disabling or fatal illnesses as a result of exposure to… hazards unique to nuclear weapons production and testing. Too often these workers were neither adequately protected from, nor informed of, the occupational hazards to which they were exposed… While the Nation can never fully repay these workers or their families, they deserve recognition and compensation for their sacrifices.”

As a result, the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) was created to compensate individuals who worked in nuclear weapons production and who developed serious illnesses as a result of occupational exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals.

Nuclear Care Partners provides EEOICPA benefits guidance and no-cost in home care to former atomic workers who have developed serious illnesses due to the exposure to radiation and toxins they endured in the workplace. Founded in 2011, Nuclear Care Partners serves hundreds of former atomic workers across the nation.

Nuclear Care Partners will be hosting honorary National Day of Remembrance Celebrations across the country throughout the month of October. For more information about these celebrations call Nuclear Care Partners at XXX-XXX-XXXX.
