In 2009, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution establishing October 30th as the National Day of Remembrance for Nuclear Weapons Program Workers. This honorary holiday recognizes the hundreds of thousands of men and women who tirelessly worked in the nuclear weapons development industry—strengthening and maintaining the country’s national defense during the Cold War.

The Senate Resolution states that many of these dedicated Americans, “Paid a high price for their service and have developed disabling or fatal illnesses as a result of exposure to beryllium, ionizing radiation, toxic substances, and other hazards that are unique to the production and testing of nuclear weapons. Whereas these patriotic men and women deserve to be recognized for their contribution, service, and sacrifice towards the defense of our great Nation.”

Every year, around this honorary day, Nuclear Care Partners hosts National Day of Remembrance (NDOR) celebrations across the country to honor the memory, legacy, and contribution of all former atomic and uranium workers.

We thank you, former atomic workers, for your service and sacrifice. It is truly an honor to serve you.
