Iowa Ordnance Plant (IAAP)

Burlington, Iowa 1949-1974

The Iowa Ordnance Plant (IAAP) was opened in 1941 to start the research and development of ordnance materials such as artillery. By the late 40’s, the testing of these items were primarily used for the development and supply of materials needed in nuclear weapons for the Atomic Energy Commission. Throughout the timeline of operations, potential exposure to beryllium is possible due to contamination activities.
