Who we are
Union workers helped build and protect our nation. Many paid the price with their health.
Since the Manhattan Project, more than a million Americans—including countless union workers—have supported our nation’s nuclear defense. Many were exposed to toxic substances like asbestos, beryllium, and heavy metals, leading to serious illnesses years later.
To honor this service, Congress created the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) in 2001. The program offers:
- Up to $400,000 in financial compensation
- Life-long, no-cost medical benefits for qualifying illnesses
