Ruben and His Experience

At the young age of 13, Ruben went to work with his father who ran a local uranium mine in Colorado. He loved mining and continued to work in mines across the state, even working on the Uravan Mining Project alongside his brother. Years of hard work and lack of protective clothing in the mines lead to asbestos, radiation, and mineral dust exposure, eventually causing Ruben to be diagnosed with pneumoconiosis (lung disease).

Thankfully, Ruben has seen improvements in his health and overall well being as a result of his care from Nuclear Care Partners. “Now he is up and going for walks and makes it to all the family occasions,” said Marie, Ruben’s wife. “He is happier and more energetic now.”
